AIM HIGH

AIM HIGH is Mt. Helix Academy’s intensive learning center. It provides as much additional support as our students need to be academically and socially successful. Some students need extra help in reading or spelling; others require special instruction in all basic skills. Check the list of options to the left to appreciate the range of assistance AIM HIGH can provide.

Individual instruction carefully planned
Instruction is individually planned and provided under the guidance of highly talented teachers who are credentialed in special education. Many students catch up to their Mt. Helix Academy peers in a year or two. Many finally come to enjoy school and learning. In part, that’s probably because AIM HIGH students are fully included in all classes and school activities in which they are successful.

We also provide a solution for the occasional student with behavior problems
Some students are able to progress academically at the rate expected of Mt. Helix Academy students but, because they display significant problem behaviors, they cannot be served at the school, even in AIM HIGH. Such students have been educated very successfully by enrolling in the Foundations Program of TIEE’s COOK Education Center for the time necessary to replace problem behaviors with socially appropriate behaviors. Once the student consistently displays behavior during instruction and other school activities that is expected of Mt. Helix Academy students, a program of transition can be implemented. Because both schools are TIEE schools, operate according to the same behavioral science principles, and use the same methods and materials, the transition can be as seamless as possible.
