Food drive a great success

A very big thank you to all who participated in this year’s food drive.

This year’s drive brought in over 1,500 pounds of food that will provide over 1,200 meals for area families. It is no wonder that Feeding America San Diego refers to Mt. Helix Academy as “one of our strongest partners.”

A special shout-out to the families of siblings Jack and Cole and siblings Mira and Zac. Zac and Mira’s mom, a college instructor, gave her students extra credit on their final exams for bringing with them food for our food drive. Cole and Jack, along with their mom, distributed paper bags in their neighborhood with instructions that they would return at a specific date and time and the request to fill those bags with food. Each set of siblings was able to raise over 1000 cans of food, which contributed greatly to our food drive. They are terrific examples of the idea that when you combine effort and creativity there is no end to what you can accomplish.
