In keeping with Mt. Helix Academy’s commitment to maximize the academic success of every student, we offer the full range of options for academic assistance. We provide study halls after school for kids who just
need the structured time to complete their homework, Homework Club for students who require more assistance from a teacher in order to understand what they must do, and Academic Tutoring for students who require a one-on-one program to catch up or to stay on par with their peers.
Primary/Elementary Module Study Hall
A supervised study hall is available to students in the Primary and Elementary modules from 3:15 to 4:00 p.m. each day and it may be accessed on any day without prior notice. Students are provided a quiet, distraction-free environment in which to complete their homework assignments. Students quickly learn to organize themselves and their materials in order to complete their assignments successfully and promptly. Those who need a bit of help find that it is readily available from the study hall monitor. Many parents find the Primary/Elementary Study Hall an invaluable resource, which supports their busy home schedules and reduces the stress sometimes associated with homework completion. The fee for this option is the same as our fee for childcare: $5.00 per hour.
Middle School Study Hall
A supervised, one-hour study hall, from 3:30 p.m. to 4: 30 p.m. is available to students without prior notice in Mt. Helix Academy’s Middle School module. Students are provided a quiet, distraction-free environment in which to complete their homework assignments. Students quickly learn to organize themselves and their materials in order to complete their assignments successfully and promptly. The Middle School Study Hall is directly supervised by a Middle School teacher who provides the assistance each student needs to complete assignments. The Middle School Study Hall fee is $6.00 per hour.
Homework Club
Mt. Helix Academy’s Homework Club is available for students who need extra supervision and assistance from a teacher in order to fully understand their homework and/or to complete it successfully. Homework Club is for students who need more supervision and assistance than is available in Mt. Helix Academy’s after school Study Halls or that can be available at home.
Mt. Helix Academy’s Homework Club helps the following students:
• Students who are easily distracted at home or by other students,
• Students who have difficulty organizing themselves and their materials,
• Students who have difficulty starting their homework and persisting at it,
• Students who don’t quite understand what their assignment is, and
• Students who need some assistance with the subject matter itself.
In Homework Club, each teacher has no more than five students. As a result, each student is provided with the personalized assistance needed to get organized, get started, continue uninterrupted, actually obtain assistance with the assignment, and better comprehend the subject matter. Homework Club is designed for student success.
Mt. Helix Academy’s Homework Club is a great solution for students
and it’s a great solution for parents and for the family’s home life.
Homework Club Schedule
Homework Club is available Monday – Thursday, from 3:15 – 4:15 p.m. Homework Club will not be scheduled during holidays or special school events.
Homework Club fees
Homework Club fee is $25 per session and must be purchased for a minimum of two weeks or eight sessions ($200). If Homework Club is purchased for a minimum of six weeks or 24 sessions, the price is $20 per session ($480). In either case, payment must be made in advance. Checks should be written to Mt. Helix Academy.
After Homework Club
Students may be picked up after Homework Club ends. Students not picked up by 4:25 p.m., will be sent to the Activity Center for after school child care and must be picked up from the school’s Activity Center.
Absence from Homework Club
In the event that a student must be absent from Homework Club for other than illness or injury which keeps the student from attending school, twenty-four hours notice must be given or the fee will be charged for the session.
Homework Club achievement reporting
Parents can expect periodic reports of their child’s progress in homework club. It is the school’s goal to prepare all students so that Homework Club is not required for success.
Academic Tutoring
Academic tutoring is available for students enrolled in Mt. Helix Academy or in neighborhood schools who need supplemental instruction in one or more subjects in order to maintain adequate progress in their regularly scheduled classes. Tutoring is provided on a 1:1 basis in order to maximize student achievement. Academic Tutoring is available for $40.00 per hour, sold only in sets of 10 sessions.
