AIM HIGH Summer Program
Fluency in the fundamentals • Schedule, Fees, & FormAIM HIGH Summer Program
Two 5-week, half-day sessions are conducted each summer for students in the San Diego community who are struggling in school because of basic skills deficits. Mt. Helix Academy’s AIM HIGH Summer Program allows 2nd to 6th graders to catch up by building fluency in fundamental academic skills. Daily fluency-building activities strengthen these skills and bring them to the level where the students are able to perform them quickly and accurately. Our students achieve the confidence youngsters need to progress once returning to school in fall.
The AIM HIGH Summer Program is especially appropriate for students who have trouble starting or finishing school work, who make careless mistakes, who are disorganized, or who seem to be able to do the work “if only s/he tried harder.” The program is staffed by teachers who are skilled in working with students whose special needs have not been adequately addressed in their school so that they may have fallen behind.
Students receive an intensive, yet very positive and highly successful “catch-up” program that builds fluency in fundamental reading, language arts, and/or mathematics skills. Each student’s program is closely monitored by a teacher, who instructs no more than five students for the session.
Some FAQs about AIM HIGH’s academic fluency-building program
What is Fluency?
Fluency means that skills can be performed quickly, accurately, and with relatively little effort. Students who are not fluent in basic academic skills often have difficulty in school. Once students are fluent, they love to demonstrate their academic skills and are eager to learn more each day.
How will my child benefit?
Your child will benefit from AIM HIGH’s fluency training if he or she struggles with school work, has trouble starting or completing work, makes careless mistakes, or could do the work “if only he or she tried harder.”
Why does AIM HIGH get results?
Each child’s program is individually developed and closely monitored by a teacher who is experienced in teaching children with special needs. Each AIM HIGH teacher has no more than five students and can help your child develop fluency in reading, math facts, spelling, writing, social skills, study skills, and those critical organization skills.
